Labor Day weekend is often considered the unofficial end of summer. With all the uncertainty and stress from the Coronavirus pandemic this year, Labor Day also represents a final opportunity to seize some summer refreshment and fun before facing the “new normal” of the fall season, whatever that ends up looking like here in Peachtree City, GA.
Whether you celebrate the holiday with socially distant parades and festivities, a quick trip to your favorite vacation spot or a cookout at home, it’s a good idea to keep safety considerations in mind for your pets while you’re making those holiday plans.
If you’re dreaming of a road trip, you may find that the challenges of traveling with pets while keeping in line with COVID safety precautions can be stressful. Consider letting your pet vacation with us while enjoying the comfy quarters, loving attention and busy playtime of our boarding program. Just leaving for the day? You can take advantage of our daycare services for the same peace of mind. Either way, we’ll help your family make the most of your short getaway over the long weekend.
If you decide to take your pet with you, remember to plan for plenty of potty and water breaks by looking for rest stops with dog-friendly spots. Be sure to bring your pet’s medical records and update their ID tags and microchip information before you leave home. And don’t forget to buckle up! Crates and carriers can usually be secured with a seat belt or invest in a well-fitted pet seat belt or harness.
When staying closer to home, you can still find plenty of fun things to do outdoors with your pets. If the heat is an issue, always offer plenty of clean, cool water and shade breaks. Water safety is key if you’re spending time near a pool, lake, river or beach. So even if your dog loves to swim, always watch them in and near the water and make sure the water quality is safe for swimming.
At backyard BBQs and parties, keep your pet away from hot grills or grease, foods that are toxic to dogs (such as grapes, onions and chocolate) and harmful trash or debris. Awareness and a little bit of preparation will help keep everyone safe while the good times roll.
As we wave good-bye to a summer like no other, we hope you can find some time to relax and enjoy the Labor Day holiday with those you love. If we can be of service, please contact us directly at (678) 364-9663.
