Meet Our DVMs

Dr. Lukina Burks, DVM, CVA, CCRT, CVMMP

Dr. Burks grew up in the inner city of Detroit, Michigan, where she developed her love for animals, people, and medicine as early as 7th grade! She experienced a natural kinship with animals and used her allowance as a foster child to home and feed strays. Early on, she felt a need to help animals and children that weren’t fortunate enough to help themselves. In those moments, she realized she wanted to become a veterinarian.

Dr. Burks earned her Doctorate from Tuskegee School of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 and began practicing small animal and exotic medicine. She became interested in rehabilitation and acupuncture to help treat pain and improve longevity in her patients. She realized that effective rehab could help patients progress from poor condition to restored mobility without surgery. She is proud to provide high-quality veterinary medicine and compassion to animals while strengthening the human-animal bond. Dr. Burks is a certified veterinary acupuncturist (CVA) through The Chi Institute, a certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist (CCRT) through Canine Rehabilitation Institute (CRI), and is currently pursuing certification in small animal veterinary medical manipulation (CVMMP) through Integrative Veterinary Medical Institute (IVMI). She shares her love with her Pomeranian, Foxy, and bearded dragon, Drogo. Other hobbies include scuba diving, weightlifting, and traveling.
